// architecture with belonging
Creating grounded and sustainable architecture for new homes, extensions, refurbishments and cultural buildings, the design process is focused around four fundamental intentions:
-
Architecture is a moment of deep connection with the landscape – with place – whether a natural or urban setting. It’s how we make our mark and put down roots. If respectful, it cultivates a powerful and reciprocal sense of belonging, which is at the heart of Feron’s practice.
Through a modern vernacular, designs grow directly from their site – grounding and reflecting their surroundings. Contextually responsive form and orientation; intentional outlook; and local, indigenous, conversational materials generate architecture that invites its landscape in – to its spaces, and to its people.
-
Freedom and intuition in the creative process are honed by artistic practice exploring intuitive drawing, composition and ceramic sculpture.
This creative process seeks to expand, strengthen and investigate our connection with the natural landscape, as well as how these places inform unique, local cultural identity and expression - both in art and architecture.
In turn, this informs dynamic, characterful and emotional architectural designs with a meaningful response to site.
-
Our homes and buildings should support our health and happiness.
Listening and responding uniquely to each client’s requirements and ideas, all Feron projects prioritise ease of use, space efficiency, comfort and healthy living.
Designs incorporate intuitive layouts and function; natural light and air movement; thermal comfort; positive outlook – whether garden, distant views or sky; nurturing, natural interiors; calmly expressive exteriors; and simple detailing for a high quality finish and peace of mind.
-
Sustainability is a key component of all Feron projects. Informed by a permaculture design qualification, the studio takes a nature based approach to environmental design, material specification, and construction.
Optimised orientation; highly insulated external fabric; efficient heat generation / recovery systems; and internal thermal mass elements combine to ensure year round thermal stability, climate resilience, and low energy demand.
Using organic, non toxic, naturally breathable materials, designs ensure low embodied carbon and healthy internal environments.
